The director of engineering division at DEKRA iST General Lee said, EV reliability verifications are facing lots of challenges, but the data will be the key success factor of EV.

“Smoking passengers reminded to not smoke by specific music played in the vehicle”, “the distance and remaining time of next traffic light shown on dashboard”, “a warning message for the driver who closes eyes for more than one second”, all of these unimaginable scenarios in the past are coming true due to the rapid development of autonomous driving and IoV. On November 14th, the most influential technology media in Taiwan - Digitimes held the “Smart Car & IoV Technology Trend Forum” in Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel. As a professional third party test verification lab, DEKRA iST and its related company DEKRA were both invited to give lectures on this IoV forum. Among 350 participants from semiconductor, communication, traditional automobile electronics, mechanics, system platform and service industry, more than 60 percent are supervisors or executives.
<The booth of DRKEA iST and DEKRA attracted potential clients to ask questions about testing and certification services.>

EV reliability verifications will improve the quality of product and reduce the return rate

The director of engineering division at DEKRA iST General Lee gave a lecture about the new challenges of EV reliability verifications. He began with automobile history, EV definition, EV parts verification, and got straight to the point - “reliability verification”. He explained, reliability verifications are usually performed in early period of product design progress with different “environmental stress” to verify the operation and non-operation endurance. “The goal is to improve the quality of product and reduce the risk of returning. However, it’s not mandatory.” Said Lee.

He added, unlike traditional reliability verifications, EV reliability verifications are facing lots of challenges. For instance, since vehicles have much to do with life, the verification will be stricter and take much more time to debug, compared with ICT products. Nevertheless, since international automotive standards have grouped and paralleled the possible environmental stresses, the total verification time could be reduced. Besides, compared with ICT products, the using environment of vehicles are much more complicated, so the density of verification needs to be increased. Also, most of the life tests of ICT products are just life prediction calculated by software, but for EV parts, it will be life demonstration of samples with specific amount. In the end of the lecture, he showed a slide with a verification requirement list of automobile manufacturers in the blink of an eye due to its confidentiality, and emphasized the irreplaceable professional service and abundant testing experience of DEKRA iST. He summed up, the key of the success of EV parts is to perform the design verification and improve the manufacturing process, according to the data of reliability verifications.

DEKRA will host the first ETSI-5GAA Testfest in the world
<The Technical Director Wireless Connectivity at DEKRA East & South Asia Karsten Peucker introduced   DEKRA’s leading position in vehicle inspections and its competitive IoV testing services.>

The lecture topic of Karsten Peucker, Technical Director Wireless Connectivity at DEKRA East & South Asia, is “Safely Accelerate C-V2X Journey”. He started with introducing DEKRA’s leading position in vehicle inspections, “we inspect 26 million vehicles per year!” Peucker said, DEKRA provides a comprehensive service for the automotive industry which including testing and certification, industry related management systems certification, safety consultation, cyber security and functional safety. He mentioned that C-V2X gives vehicles the ability to communicate with each other and beyond, and 5G will bring new capabilities for the connected vehicle, such as extreme throughput, edgeless connectivity, high reliability, 1ms end-to-end latency, high availability. Peucker emphasized that DEKRA offers testing service for RED (EU) and FCC (USA), and also certification service like PTCRB, GCF, NFC, 5GAA, 3GPP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, to assist clients with increasing speed to enter different markets.

Besides, Peucker also shared with audience about the successful 5GAA C-V2X testing event at DEKRA Klettwitz proving ground in April, and the first OMNIAIR Plugfest hosted in Europe held in DEKRA Testing & Certification laboratory and test track in Malaga in September. He also announced that in December the first ETSI-5GAA Testfest will be also hosted by DEKRA in Malaga as well. He said, the advantages of DEKRA testing service in IoV field includes unique model, configurable (to set up complex scenarios), proven expertise, strong R&D and innovation ability, modern test labs, advanced test tools and professional experts. Peucker also introduced DEKRA’s IoT and EMC labs in Linkou and IoV lab in Hsinchu, and emphasized its professional testing and certification service and complete testing capabilities.

Except for DEKRA iST and DEKRA, the “Smart Car & IoV Technology Trend Forum” also invited other leading companies of related industries to give speeches, such as Foxconn Technology Group, NXP Semiconductors Taiwan, Advantech, Automotive Research Testing Center and many others.
